We've Come A Long Way, Babe
It has been four years since I picked up Kushiel's Dart, the first book of Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy. It is the only fantasy series I follow to this day. And the story still has its hold on me. A friend warned me once about fantasy books -it'll never end and more often than not, there will be spin-offs. And she was quite right because now I'm at home reading the continuation of the Legacy concerning Phèdre nó Delaunay's foster son, diligently. Like all stories, The Legacy has its fair share of life lessons to depart on readers. My favorite at that time was: that which yields is not always weak. Feminists, please take note, mayhap you can learn a thing or two from this infamous courtesan ho ho. Now that the focus has gone to her foster son, Imriel de la Courcel, things are getting rather interesting. And hitting too close to home, for me at least. Since now I find myself too concerned about inadequate unions and believing less in things as I turn older each year, the spin-off from the legacy couldn't have come at a better time.
