Rags Rags Rags

Because if you want to make a career out of it, you need to do your homework. So I'm doing mine. I was told to check out magazines by BGII, my acting advisor, on matters that are elitist and exclusive. Although I don't always agree with his taste in these things (simply because I think some of the things he digs are PRETENTIOUS), I'm trying to keep an open mind. So here they are...

Candy
Just in case you get the wrong idea, they are an independently produced digital magazine. Remember, that's independently produced digital magazine. Lest you forget, they have that phrase highlighted in blue just for you. Really, I became skeptical when I spotted the IDN icon on their site. But I've got no complains about their rag -visually stimulating.

100Proof
While Candy looks sleek and visually pleasing, 100Proof looks uber cool. It's more raw than Candy and it does not remind you what it's supposed to be. No policy there. More pictures and, like Candy, you download each issue in PDF format. I had quite a fun time downloading issues in class this morning hoohoo.

Theme
Printed magazine on contemporary asian culture. This thing makes me think of plastic -y'know the kind of clear plastic you use to wrap your new school books? It's too sleek, too meticulous despite the global avant-garde Asian culture tag. Something similar to what a friend said about the recent Muse concert -it's so tight, you're better off listening to their albums at home. Maybe I'm not a fan of pefection.

MOJO's new issue is on Joy Divsion... AGAIN! It's like Kurt Cobain's Death Anniversary or something geezus. And they put Curtis on the cover... AGAIN! They like their rockstars dead don't they? Dead and depressed. Suicides? Even better. As opposed to NME, for example, now THEY like their rockstars young and alive -the thicker the accent, the better. Can't NME go through a facelift? Their current look reminds me so much of Smash Hits.

Quote of my day surprisingly comes from an old issue of Candy:

"And never has a generation seemed so inspired"
