IN MANY WAYS THEY MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS

today i read the Life! section of The Straits Times. in another "enlightening" report on the current music climate, this dude named Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads and The Frames in his 'The Next British Invasion' article. i'm okay with all those bands. but i was incensed when i read this paragraph:

"These new artists are reaching back to those lasting influences, and the earlier age of the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, for inspiration, raising hope -and not false ones like Oasis and Blur did -that Britain may long last be on the verge of an exciting new musical era."

i am a big fan of Blur. enough said. the whole article sounds like an old man trying to hold on to the good old days of rock n roll. the geezers of the old can't rock like they used to so they be putting all their faith on the kids of today to rock it harder than they, themselves, ever could. i am still a Blur fan, granpa. remember that! false hopes? BAH! i am a Blur fan who just can't get enough of New York bands. from the hiphop acts to the indie variety. recently i was introduced to Oneida by The Nanny. total pscyhedeliko stupor, i tell you. when i was reading their review at epitonic.com, i was grinning like an idiot at the many muscial references (all of which was agreeable) the writer made with this band. i let The Nannny hear the Beastie Boys' Aglio E Olio Ep in return for letting me sound check Oneida and he was impressed. tit for tat, i'd say. we had a thrashing good time last night, bouncing from straight-up trashcore to psychedelic garage rock to the fucking Spanish Harlem Orchestra, baby! the Nanny, Null and me munching on rice crackers and chugging on Marlbs like 3 anak terbiar.
